Since July 2026, the Seoul National University (SNU) Central Library has been using EBSCO eBooks as its new platform for international eBook purchase requests, replacing ProQuest. The change follows ProQuest’s discontinuation of eBook sales through its platform. The transition allows the Library to continue providing its international eBook purchase request service without interruption.

Through EBSCO eBooks, users can search for international eBooks and check their availability all in one place. SNU members can access the platform through the link below:

Using the new platform is straightforward. Members of the SNU community can search for international eBooks by title, author, subject, or keyword, much as they would on any library database. If a title is already available through the Library, it can be accessed and read online immediately. Depending on the title and its licensing conditions, users may also be able to save or print selected pages. If a title is not yet available in the Library’s collection, users can submit a purchase request directly through the EBSCO eBooks platform.

International eBook purchase requests are accepted year-round from SNU faculty, staff, and students, so members can request the titles they need for study, teaching, or research at any time.

Each request is reviewed individually in accordance with the Library’s established collection development and acquisition criteria. Factors considered include whether the title is used as a textbook in an SNU course, its price and licensing terms, whether the Library already holds a print copy, and the budget available for the period. Not every requested title can be purchased, and applicants are notified once the review is complete. Approved titles are then added to the Library’s eBook collection for use by the wider SNU community.

These requests also help SNU Central Library better understand the evolving information needs of the university community and reflect them in its collection development. By taking user requests into account, the Library can continue to expand its international eBook collection and provide timely access to academic resources across a wide range of disciplines.

With the transition to EBSCO eBooks, SNU Central Library will continue to enhance its services so that members of the university community can find and request the international eBooks they need more conveniently.
