SNU Distinguished Professor Chang Kyung-Sup published The Risk of Compressed Modernity and presented its key substances at the ISA Forum of Sociology

Chang Kyung-Sup, SNU Distinguished Professor of Sociology, published in June 2025 a book entitled The Risk of Compressed Modernity by Polity Press (Cambridge, UK) under the support of the SNU Institute of Social Sciences, and presented its key substances at the International Sociological Association’s Forum of Sociology held in Rabat, Morocco in July. The Chinese edition of this book has already been contracted for publication as part of the Tsinghua University-Zhejiang University consortium for translating essential overseas academic books.

The Chinese edition of Professor Chang’s earlier book by Polity Press, The Logic of Compressed Modernity (2022), entitled in Chinese <壓縮現代性的逻辑>, has been published across China in July 2025 as part of the same consortium. Professor Chang is currently preparing a book entitled, China: Compressed Modernity and Its Consequences, to be also published by Polity Press.

Besides, Professor Chang was invited by The Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco in April 2025, to agree on the Arabic translation of his book, The Logic of Compressed Modernity, by the Academy-affiliated Higher Academic Authority for Translation, for its beneficent distribution by the Academy across the MENA (Middle East & North Africa) region. This agreement reflects the rapidly growing academic and practical interest in the significance of South Korea as a key role model for the common efforts at modernization and development among this region’s many countries.
